Happy Holidays!
Tomorrow is Eid! Today is the last day of Ramadan! For those who don't know these days are important holidays for Muslims. Eid is the day after Ramadan in which we can eat and drink and enjoy all day! I fasted through the whole month of Ramadan. During Ramadan we did not eat or drink while the sun is up. That doesn't sound too hard but trust me it is very difficult. If you don't take my word for it, give it a try for a few days and I promise you will see that it takes a lot of self control! Every morning we stopped eating and drinking at around 4 a.m. everyday. Then we could not eat or drink again until the sun went down. The sun would set anywhere from 8p.m. to 6:48 p.m. After the first few days you stop feeling so hungry but you are extremely thirsty and tired. However at the end of each day you have a rewarding feeling and you also feel as if you are a part of something bigger! I'm sad that Ramadan is over but I'm also excited for Eid!

Freak Accident
Today I was online not really doing anything productive when Ash told me that I had to read this news article. I decided to check it out. It was horrible! The news article was about a six year old girl. Her and her mother were driving home from the girl's soccer practice. The girl was seated in the back of the car playing with a jump rope she had found. She had tied one end of the jump rope to her left hand. The other end of the rope she stuck out the window to float in the breeze. All of a sudden the rope got snagged on the axle of the car, ripping her hand off. The girl began screaming and crying. The mother who was unaware of what had happened looked back to discover her daughter covered in blood missing a hand, she panicked and pulled the car over. Luckily, driving in the car behind them was an off duty paramedic. He witnessed the whole incident and pulled over to help. Quickly he jumped out of his car and tied the girl's wrist off with his waste belt and called the police. He sat with both of them who were in shock. In fact the girl didn't even know what had happened. He explained to them what he saw. The little girl then asked if anyone was going to help her. The paramedic reassured her that people were on there way. When the ambulance showed up, the on duty paramedics retrieved her missing hand and rushed them to the hospital. Ten hours of surgery latter the girl had her hand back! The doctors are not sure if she will ever gain full use of her hand.
I think its remarkable that a doctor can attach a severed hand! I cant even imagine the pain of having your hand ripped off. I would think she would have some sort of trauma after that incident. Including the mother. I would be freaked out to turn around and see my kid without a hand screaming and blood everywhere. Talk about a bad day! Thank God that the off duty paramedic was behind them. If he wasn't, the girl could have die or her hand may not have been able to be reattached. I hope she feels better and gains all the use of her hand back. What a terrible thing for a six year old to go through.

Outside
Today I took a walk around Kendric's lake with my mother and sister. It was beautiful outside. The leaves are beginning to change suit. I love it. All of the colors, reds, yellows, oranges, and a few green patches still trying to hang on. The air is chilly giving hints that winter is near. The birds rest in the trees for a few minutes before departing with their flocks, further North for warmer weather. The lake is desolate. We were the only people there. In the background the sound of cars rush road was proof that life still exists which I hardly notice because we were deep in conversation. The lake with its lazy waves looked colder than ice. I even felt concerned for the fish! Soon winter will be here. The trees will no longer have leaves and the colors will become just a memory until next fall. The lake will be frozen and the ground will be blanketed with snow. The who inhabited the trees birds will be gone without even a trace that they too once lived here. Then it will become too cold even for us to come. Kendric's lake will become barren and forgotten by all until the spring. But for now the lake is ours, peaceful and still full of color. I cant wait for the spring when outside becomes alive again.

Cafeteria
My mouth began to flood as soon as the smell hit my olfactory bulbs. I sat a a empty table near the entrance of the cafeteria. The seat that I sat on had crumbs which I bushed to the floor. The display of chips took all the power in the world to remove my eyes. All of the different colored bags with labels of different flavors. The worst had to be the grill. The aroma filled sizzle that echoed in your ear repeatedly with no Merci. The steady beat of foot steps that marched through the lines was enough to make anyone crack. Wallets were out and ready! Flapping open and closed mocking me. Receipts printed, pens scribbled, change clinked together and the whole time I prayed for relief. My stomach grumbled, and turned over and over like a pendulum ticking away life! Those who made it out carried plates of warm beauty took seats near mine! What a crule act! Who would do such a thing? The comical crunching of all the jaws in the room through me into a sadistic shudder. I muffled my stomach and staggered into the hall.

Nose Metal
I have a few piercings which I love. I got all of the piercings as a since of fashion not so much as a depiction on my life. My favorite piercing is my nose. I found that depending on the metal I put in my nose, I get different reactions. When I put in a ring, more people seem to give me dirty looks. Where as if I were a stud. I receive complements and nobody has a problem with it. I have one tattoo but I don't think that I would ever get another one. It is too permanent for me. My thoughts evolve and change so much that I don't think that I could have something tattooed on my body forever. I find that piercings are not forever if you don't want them to be.

Beauty
Media has changed the face of beauty world wide. In order to be considered beautiful females must follow the strict code mandated by the media. In the essay, The Empire of Images in Our World of Bodies by Susan Bordo, demonstrates that the image of beauty has been tarnished. Bordo gives many examples from her own life. When reflecting on my life, I realized that media has affected me more than I had thought.
When I was young my parents would take me and my little brother to the toy stores. Boy and girl toys were very different. All of the girl toys were domestic related such as a fake kitchen, dress up, barbies, and babies. I was far more interested in the boys toys which were balls, fake guns that shoot, spy gear, cars, ant farms, and toys that took more thinking than a barbie. I am outraged that toys that required knowledge were only marketed to boys. I always wanted the bug observatory over potty training tott.
TV and Magazines are terrible about portaying beauty. Only the skiniest, and flawless women are displayed. I know many girls who strived to become just like a magazine model. The girls who wanted to become like these models diets, and eating disorders surfaced. In Bordo's essay she touches breifly on the tradigy that took place in Fiji. When media was introduced eatting disorders were too.
I think that media should start showing what real women look like!
